Nestled in a historic suburban community on over 300 acres in the north shore of Long Island, C.W. Post Campus is part of Long Island University. This historic neighborhood is also well known as the Gold Coast and has been the subject of many novels and movies. The campus location is ideal. It is located just minutes from world class beaches, stimulating entertainment and fantastic restaurants. It is also a short drive from the city lights of New York City.
Founded in 1954, C.W. Post Campus is an extension of Long Island University. It was formed to accommodate the growing need for education of World War II veterans that lived in Nassau County. The site of the campus is located on the former estate of the Post family. The campus was named after Mr. Charles Post, the founder of the Post Cereal Company.
Today, the campus is a unique blend of the old and the new. It has been recognized as one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. It has beautiful historic mansions (the homes of Marjorie Merriweather Post of Post Cereal and the home of EF Hutton, financial wizard) for all to explore and learn about the history of these two famous families. There is also a world renowned arboretum which has over 4000 trees, breathtaking gardens, nature trails and some of the greenest lawns you will ever see. The nice thing is that it is not only available for students and faculty, but the public also is allowed access to all of the walking trails. It is a tour that will amaze viewers. There is a 100 year old White Oak tree to see as well as Copper Beeches that were planted in the 1900s. There are also thousands and thousands of Tulips and Daffodils to discover all over the campus. It is a wonderful feast for the eyes that you don't want to miss.
