Located in the eastern end of Long Island’s Suffolk County, the Riverhead Campus of LIU is rather unique. Situated between the Long Island Sound and the Great Peconic Bay on the grounds of Suffolk County Community College, the Riverhead campus of LIU has a lot to offer students.
The Riverhead campus has plenty of parking close to classes. Students are allowed to use the bookstore, an excellent library facility and the cafeteria of Suffolk County Community College while attending LIU Riverhead. All LIU classes are held in the Long Island University Building.
LIU Riverhead offers several different Master’s Degree programs for students to choose from. These programs are designed to allow working professionals as well as traditional students the opportunity to work towards their Masters Degree. Classes are offered in the evening and on weekends to accommodate the need of the work and in many cases family obligations.
The following Masters Degree Programs are offered at LIU Riverhead:
Homeland Security Management: This is a 36 credit Masters of Science in Homeland Security Management. This is an online program.
Teaching Students with Disabilities: Designed for certified teachers to receive another certification as a specialist in teaching children with disabilities. Students choose from grades 1-6 or grades 7-12 as their concentration.
Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis: A 24 credit certificate program that once completed gives the student a board certification. Upon completion of the program students will be able to sit for the board examination.
Literacy Education: Prepares certified teachers to become literacy specialists.
They also offer the following Certification Programs:
Advanced Certificate in Homeland Security Management: This is a 15 credit certification program offered to professionals in law enforcement, military, EMS, Fire Fighters in the private or corporate sector. This is an online program.
Certificate of Childhood Education 1-6: Students must have completed a B.A. or B.S. in some degree other then education. It is basically to prepare students for a career teaching on an elementary school level.
LIU Riverhead also offers a very unique educational experience for individuals who are retired. Created in 1981, the Center for Creative Retirement was established to allow retired individuals to embark on a self directed learning experience. It is a way for the older adult population to seek out personal enrichment and work towards other certificate and licensing programs which can increase their potential to continue to be a vital part of the community. It is a unique one of a kind program that LIU offers the community.
